  • Robert Rothschild Farm: A television crew from the Food Network's Roker on the Road was filming at the Robert Rothschild Farm when we arrived, which indicates the growing popularity of this 170-acre complex. Plan to come hungry. Throughout the shop, bowls of pretzels and crackers sit on tables, all paired with Rothschild preserves, mustards, salsas and dips. The newest product is the Jelly Bean Jelly. The "jelly beans in a jar" come in flavors like Banana Burst and Tangerine Twist.

  • Sweet Annie Gift Shop & Main St. Clothing Company: The mother-daughter team of Charlotte Hupp and Leslie Broadstock does a great job of buying and display items at the Sweet Annie Gift Shop and Main Street Clothing Company. It has everything from linens and l amps to travel accessories and handbags. Clothing lines include April Cornell, Willow and Icelandic sweaters, as well as a whole room of Vera Bradley bags.   • Special events: There's a First Friday gathering downtown from 5 to 8 p.m. on the first Friday of the month from April through October. The next two are slated for Sept. 5 and Oct. 3.

Getting there: Take Interstate 75 north to Interstate 70 east U.S. 68. Go north into downtown Urbana. It's about 45 minutes or so from Dayton. Park near the center of town and walk to most of the shops. The Robert Rothschild Farm is on 3143 East U.S. 36, three miles east of Urbana.
